for the initial start

Let's go!

This Quickstart Guide should help you to start implementing your project as quickly as possible by showing you the initial installation of an exemplary device setup with two Low Pressure Syringe Pumps neMESYS 290N.

Nevertheless, please take the time to study our hardware and software manuals. They contain all safety instructions as well as detailed information for the use of the CETONI products. For a first overview about the basic functions with our pump system we recommend to review chapter 4, 5 and 7 in our QmixElements software manual. For further detailed instructions or technical information you can download diverse manuals and technical data sheets from our website www.cetoni.com.

In addition, our application specialists are of course available for your questions and assistance.

Installation

Step 1: Creating a device configuration

  1. Install the QmixElements software on the supplied CD on your PC.
    (Please review chapter 3 in the QmixElements software manual for the system requirements and installation process.)
  2. Please connect the base module with your control unit (PC). Use the supplied USB-cable and power-cable for this.
  3. Start the software and click on “Create Configuration”.

  1. Create a new device configuration setup like the physical device setup with the “Device Wizard” by “drag & drop”. Please note, adding the base module to your configuration is not necessary, that's why you won't find it within the device list (except you own a "starter module" with integrated pump).
  2. Save this configuration and go on further by clicking on “Configure”.

Important
Please do not plug all modules of your setup together from the beginning as it needs to be a step by step procedure. The software carefully guides you through the configuration process of each single module on your screen.

Step 2: Configuring single modules

  1. Please first connect only one module with the base module and follow the instructions displayed on the screen step by step.

  1. After the successful configuration, disconnect the first module.
  2. Follow the instructions displayed on the screen as before.
  3. Repeat the same steps for the second pump module.

Tip
For an easier mechanical handling you can use the interconnect cable for creating connectivity between the base module and pump module.
Important
Each time plug in only one single module to the base module and configure it solely in the software.

Step 3: Plugging hardware modules together and connecting with software

  1. After the successful software device configuration of all modules, you can connect the physical devices all together to one whole setup now.
  2. After restarting the software you can finally create a connectivity with the physical devices by clicking on the “plug”-symbol in the left upper corner on the graphic user interface.
  3. Now the syringe pumps are ready for use.

Important
In the graphic user interface of the software the pump modules will be shown from left to right in the chronological order during the first hardware configuration. You can also rename the pumps individually in the interface (left-click into the pump name and re-writing any other name).

Step 4: Attaching syringes to the pump

  1. Right-click on the syringe in the graphic user interface and choose “Configure Syringe”.
  2. Choose the appropriate syringe from the pre-set table or create your own specific parameters.
    (Please review chapter 7 of the QmixElements software manual for more details.)
  3. Make a reference move by right-clicking on the syringe and choose “Reference Move”.
  4. Now you can fix the glass syringe to the module.
    (Please review chapter 5 of  the neMESYS 290N hardware manual for more details.)
  5. For basic flow commands please review chapter 7 of the QmixElements software manual.
    (Please review chapter 6 of the QmixElements software manual for sophisticated automation scripts.)

Tip
Choose the “neMESYS display mode” in the left column, so that the syringes are displayed in the graphic user interface.
Important
Caution! Do not attach a glass syringe before not conducted the reference move!Each time you change the syringe on the module you should conduct the reference move.

Further functional software settings

I/O interface

If your device consists of an external I/O-interface, you can assign e.g. a pressure sensor.
By right-clicking on the “AnalogIN 1” icon (label „neMESYS Low Pressure 1 AnalogIN 1”) you can transform the channel into the adequate sensor property.
(Please review chapter 8 of the QmixElements software manual for more details.)

I/O configuration

After converting the AnalogIN channel into the adequate device property (here: pressure) you can assign the pressure sensor from the I/O channel column per drag & drop to the pump module.

By right-clicking on the pressure-value-symbol below the valve you can activate the pressure-monitoring-function, which is recommended to avoid undesired harmful pressure peaks into the system.

Also by right-clicking to the valve-symbol you can configure an automated switching modus for the valve. (Please review chapter 7 of the QmixElements software manual and chapter 5 of the neMESYS 290N hardware manual for more details.)

Tip
By moving with the mouse cursor over diverse icons, an explaining-window pops up‚ by right-clicking on the symbols different functional options are displayed.
